Denis Diderot Encyclopedie Discussion Questions

In the first paragraph (pages 17-18) Diderot discusses the Encylopedie as meaning the interrelation of all knowledge.  What is significant about the word interrelation in this paragraph?  (Find a quote from the paragraph to answer the question and explain why it is important.)
In paragraphs 2-3 (pages 18-19) Diderot asserts that the Encyclopedie could only have been the endeavor of a philosophical century. Why does he think this is the case?  (Find one or two quotes from the paragraph and write a brief explanation of how the quotes respond to the question.)
In paragraphs 6-7 (pages 19-20) Diderot talks about the problems of people who are called good citizens but should really be called bad men. What do these men want to do that make them so bad (list three things and give a quote to explain/prove each thing.)
What do you think Diderot would think about Wikipedia? Explain your reasoning using evidence from the last paragraph of the reading (page 20-21).

Immanuel Kant What is Enlightenment? Discussion Questions

According to Kant, who is it hardest to break free from self-incurred tutelage?  (See paragraph 3 on page 1 for ideas).
Kant isnt perfectly clear on this point, but what are some of the things he thinks youd have to do to break away from self-incurred tutelage? ( see paragraphs 3, 4, 5, 6) and find 2-3 quotes to support your ideas.
In your own words, explain whats the different between public and private reason (see paragraph 7 on pages 3-4) for the way Kant explains this.
Kant says that he lives in the age of Enlightenment (page 5). Whats an example from the text that gives an example of what this means?
In the last paragraph of the reading Kant says a greater degree of civil freedom appears advantageous to the freedom of the mind of the people, and yet it places inescapable limitations upon it; a lower degree of civil freedom, on the contrary provides the mind with room for reach man to extend himself to his full capacity (7). What do you think this means in your own words?
