In chapters 7-9 of theMcWhirter text, you read about the following youth risk categories:
- Substance Abuse and Addiction
- Teenage Pregnancy, Risky Sexual Behavior, and STIs
- Juvenile Delinquency and Youth Violence
Choose one of the risk categories above andsearch for a recent (within the last year) article about that topic in anewspaper or other periodical. Summarize the main points of the articleand, if possible, include a link so that your classmates can read it. Then makeconnections between what you have learned about the youth risk category from yourtextbook reading and what you have learned in the recent article. Forexample, does the article discuss the risk and protective factors outlined inthe text? Does it illustrate any of the principles of effective prevention orintervention strategies? Perhaps the article describes an interventionthat takes a different approach that those described in the text; if so,explain why you believe that is likely to be an effective approach. Finally, share what you have learned from the article that has deepened or expandedyour understanding of the youth risk category and/or left you with furtherquestions about the subject.
