Reflect and write about your own educational history.
Then, Interview family members about their educational history (family is loosely defined as the people you feel closest to).
Below are some possible questions to reflect on and to ask family.
Where did you go to school?
How did you feel about school?
Did you see yourself as successful? Why or why not?
*Brainstorm other questions you feel are important to reflect on and ask those you interview.
Focus on access to education and the historical contexts within which they lived. Remember that race, class and gender are significant in looking at the sociopolitical contexts in U.S. schools, historically. Write about these experiences, providing resources to back up your findings.
