this is the source (attached)

these are the questions

a. Introduce the clinical question to your listening audience and explain the rationale behind the question why is this clinical question important?
b. For each source, answer the following questions/ prompts as a team:
i. Introduce the article (complete title and authors full name).
ii. Determine what type of source it is. Is the article a primary source that collects and analyzes its own data? And if so, is it a qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods research study?
Or is the article a secondary source that offers commentary, studies the literature, and/ or summarizes best practice guidelines?
In short, is this source a primary source that the team can potentially use to answer the clinical question in the Group Presentation? If its not a primary source, then you need to flag it because it cant be used!
TIP: Just because the article is published in a scientific journal, it does not mean that the source is a primary source or evidence-based research study. If youre unsure: Use the strategies we learned at the beginning of the semester to identify the different elements of an evidence-based research study; skim the article to see that it follows the basic anatomy of a research study. Check the journals website; the journal will state what types of submissions it accepts. See what type of submission best matches the tone of the article in question.
iii. Summarize the purpose/ aim, method, and results/ major findings of the source.
iv. Critically appraise the source. As a team, answer TWO questions in the list below. Refer to specific evidence from the primary source article to support your explanation:
Is the sample representative? Is the sample sufficient? Could there be a sampling bias? Based on this, could the researchers confidently generalize the findings to the wider population?
Is the research design appropriate? What could the researchers have done differently to ensure further validity and reliability?
How reliable is the instrument used?
Are the results statistically significant?
What are the major limitations of the study and does the researcher acknowledge them?
Are the main conclusions from the study logically supported by the data?
Do you agree with the researchers interpretation and recommendations?
Is this study helpful to your clinical practice? How does it relate to current Best Practice Guidelines?
v. As a team, determine whether the source is appropriate, relevant, and reliable enough to help you answer the clinical question in the Group Presentation.
