Final Exam Prompt: 300 Words Use any of the stories below
Considering all of the works we have read this semester, consider the notion of “human nature.” From the stories we have read this semester, how does the text speak to that theme? What literary devices or rhetoric are used to add deeper meaning to the idea of “human nature?” Discuss at least two of the works.
This does not need to be a very long essay. This is a short essay answer. I don’t expect you to go into the same amount of detail you would if you had several days to work on it. The intent is that this final is done in one sitting.
Key things I am looking for: A strong thesis statement (remember! It is the roadmap!). Examining and pointing out at least one of the rhetorical devices and providing sufficient evidence of that device from the story (or stories).
Texts that you may select from:
Trifles
“A Rose for Emily”
“The Story of an Hour”
“Thank you, Ma’am”
“Eleven”
“Button, Button”
“Supertoys Last All Summer Long”
“The Lottery”
“Low Barometer”
