The difference between old and modern construction

 

Burj Khalifa:

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, there is a skyscraper called the Burj Khalifa. With more than 160 floors and an elevation of 828 meters (2,716 feet), it is the tallest structure in the world. At an estimated cost of $1.15 billion USD, the Burj Khalifa’s construction project started in 2004 and ended in 2010. It has a sleek, contemporary design that draws inspiration from Islamic architecture, and it was created by the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Observation decks and a sky lounge are located on the upper floors of the building, which is a mixed-use structure with residential, commercial, and hotel spaces. The Burj Khalifa is a well-known tourist destination that has come to represent Dubai and provides breath-taking views of the desert surroundings and city skyline (Sotoudeh Nia& Rose‐Redwood, 2019).

 

The Eiffel Tower:

The Eiffel Tower is a landmark monument located in Paris, France. It was built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel as the entrance arch to the 1889 World’s Fair. At that time, It was the tallest man-built structure in the time it was completed. The tower stands at a height of 324 meters (1,063 feet). It is made of iron and features a lattice-like construction, giving it a unique and recognizable appearance. The Eiffel Tower is a popular tourist attraction and is known for its stunning views of the city from its observation decks. It has also been used for scientific experiments such as measuring the speed of light. It was also used for radio transmissions, and it is a global known symbol of France and Parisian culture (Hervé, 2003).

The base of the tower consists of four pillars that converge in the middle and give way to a lattice structure that gradually narrows towards the top. The intricate latticework design has become synonymous with Paris and is instantly recognizable to people around the world.

Historically, The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 as the entrance arch for the World’s Fair and named after its builder, Gustave Eiffel. At 300 meters high, it was the tallest man-made structure in the world at the time.

Meanwhile, The Burj Khalifa was completed in 2010 and is currently the world’s tallest structure at 828 meters. Construction he started in 2004 and was completed after a construction period of six years.

While the Eiffel Tower has a rich history and has been a major cultural landmark in Paris for over a century, the Burj Khalifa represents a more modern era of skyscraper construction and technology. In addition, Burj Khalifa has a commercial purpose and houses offices, hotels and residences, while the Eiffel Tower is primarily a tourist attraction.

The Burj Khalifa is a mixed-use building. That contains different rooms for different purposes. With offices, apartments and hotel rooms, it is Dubai’s business and tourism hub. The building is in the heart of the city, allowing easy access to major attractions such as the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain.

 

Unlike the Burj Khalifa, the Eiffel Tower was not designed to serve any specific commercial or residential function. It was built purely as a tourist attraction and a symbol of French culture and engineering prowess. Today, the tower attracts millions of visitors each year who come to take in the stunning views of Paris from its observation decks, enjoy its restaurants and cafes, and marvel at its intricate wrought-iron construction.
