Methods to evaluate research components, alignment

Writing clear and concise concepts is an expectation for a researcher despite the researcher’s area of discipline. Within research literature or projects, succinct ideas entail cohesive ideas that express a common goal. For instance, research projects or dissertations must have uniformity among distinct research components such as the research design, research question, and research problem so to demonstrate ‘how’ each component addresses the goal of the research project. Though there are various methods to ensure research components are aligned, one method can entail the use of a theory as a focal point for a research project.

According to Akesson et al. (2018), theories can enhance research in social work by continuing or enhancing ideas surrounding existing findings or discoveries. Thus, using a specific theory as the foundation of a research problem could aid in ensuring that other aspects of a research project are aligned. For instance, a theory surrounding the social development of children could seek to support a research problem surrounding children’s behavioral developmental stages in specific settings, such as preschool. Further, a research question could state ‘how are government-funded programs contributing to the behavioral development of pre-school aged children.’

Ideally,  the study could examine resources or learning materials provided to such children designed to encourage social, emotional, and behavioral development. Notably, each component would seek to build on the theory that supports the research project. However, to ensure that I have a great concept of each aspect of my research project, I would rely on Walden’s Office of Research and Doctoral Services to schedule sessions to have my research reviewed as needed. (Walden, n.d.)

Course insights and social change

Concerning insights obtained from this course, I discovered the use of qualitative research can give insight into social problems due to the perspective approach in  qualitative research. (Babbie,2017). That is using qualitative research can be insightful to researchers seeking to learn how to address social problems ‘inwardly’  Aside from this, I learned that research is a continuous process that aims to build on the views of others. ( Folajogun, 2020).Thus, considering social change, my research will serve as a continuous body of work surrounding my topic, parental barriers for single homeless women and their children. However, the goal of my research project will seek to align with Walden’s goal to invoke social change. (Walden, 2015).

Further, it has been a pleasure learning from each of you, may you all have much success in your future professional and academic endeavors.

Respectfully,

Latasha
