Critical or political art can be equally as visceral and powerful as conventional or colonized notions of beauty (e.g., Banksy’s Dismaland, Finkelstein et al.’s Silence=Death, Dustin Klein’s No Justice No Peace). How do notions of beauty reflect the social and cultural period in which we live? Is conventional beauty at odds with critical–political engagement?
