For this assignment, you will write a critical analysis of the articles “When Teachers Talk Out of School” by Jonathan Zimmerman and “Protecting Free Speech for Teachers in a Social Media World” by Todd Pettigrew.
Your analysis should include the following elements:
- An introduction that grabs reader attention, concludes with a well-crafted thesis statement, and contains relevant information as discussed in class:
- The authors and their “claims to fame” (what are they known for?)
- The original places of publication
- Original dates of publication
- A summary of each of the articles
- A critical analysis of the works using the elements of argument to examine the articles:
- The authors’ claims and their accuracy and validity
- How/why the works utilize logos/ethos/pathos
- The authors’ use of concession/refutation to strengthen their own claims
- Is the author logical in their argument? Are there fallacies or inaccuracies in the authors’ work? Do they make fair points/comparisons?
- A conclusion that restates the thesis, sums up the analysis, and ends with a profound statement.
- A works cited page that includes, at least, Zimmerman and Pettigrew’s articles, correctly cited using MLA format.
The paper should be 4-6 pages in length; the works cited page does not count towards page length requirements. Additionally, the paper should be pronoun-free to avoid direct address of reader.
