Cultural Autobiography

 

1. You are required to write an autobiographical sketch describing the development of your cultural identities in the following domains:
   1. race/ethnicity
   2. social class
   3. religion/spirituality

 

2. Your narrative can be arranged thematically or chronologically; however, please include at least three cultural identity domains in your paper (race/ethnicity must be one of them). In addition, please apply one of the racial/cultural identity development models that is described in your textbook (Ch 11-12) to discuss your own racial and cultural identity development.

 

3. You may use the following questions to guide your writing:

 

1. How do you define yourself?
2. How was your identity formed (e.g., by whom or what activities, what were you taught about this group)?
3. What are some rules or norms in your cultural identity?
4. Have you experienced any challenges, discrimination, or micro-aggression due to your cultural identity?

 

4. As you think about your cultural identity, what do you wish others understood about you and your culture?
