Current Event Essay Assignment
A 4-paragraph essay structure with a minimum length of 1.5 to 2 FULL typed pages. At least 3 sources (one may be the textbook and one MUST be an academic article) must be referenced in your essay.
Header
· Centered at the top of page, type title of this assignment: Current Event Essay.
· Left-hand corner of your paper, include identifying information: (1) first/last name; (2) CJ/SO 306; (2) Date. (single-spaced)
· Next include the APA citation [1] of your news article. (Single-spaced)
** Paragraphs are to be either single or 1.5 line spacing.
Paragraph 1
· Your introduction.
· Should be short, clear, and catchy.
· Familiarize readers with your topic and give reader a brief outline on what you will be addressing. For example, what is the event? what happened? What are some factors that may have led up to the event?
Paragraph 2
· Your Claims: Discuss concepts, ideas, and information from course material.
· Feature ideas, facts, and thoughts from 3 credible scholarly sources such as your textbook, journal articles, books, or government document to support your claims.
· At least 3 sources (one may be the textbook and one MUST be an academic article) must be referenced in your essay.
· Some transitions to use in the body of your essay include, on the other hand, for example, as illustrated by, more importantly, on the contrary, etc.
Paragraph 3
· Reflection: Discuss your thoughts about the article.
Paragraph 4
· Your conclusion.
· Summarize the important details from your essay.
· Use transition language marking it is the conclusion of your essay – in summary, in conclusion, as already discussed, etc.
· Discuss any possibility of bias in the article.
· Let your readers know why the event is significant enough to be covered in an essay.
References
· Your references should be listed in APA citation format.
· A minimum of 3 sources should be listed.
