Part A-Although your curriculum ideologies may change over time and people can have more than one ideology, in this assignment you will use the Appendix: Curriculum Ideologies Inventory in the Curriculum Theory: Conflicting Visions and Enduring Concerns text, to analyze your own ideology of curriculum and instruction. Follow the directions exactly as they are presented in the appendix. Use the Sorting Form and Graphing Sheet to guide you. You will first rank each of four statements and transfer your responses from the inventory to the Sorting Form. Then use the Graphing Sheet to graph your data. Finally, read the “Interpreting the Results of the Inventory” section to determine which ideology is most like you. Write a 200-300 word reflection of this process.

Use the following questions to guide your reflection:

1. Which ideology did your graph reveal that you were most like? Least like?

2. Were there any other ideologies that were close to your identified ideology?

3. How accurate is the graph of your ideology? Explain.

4. Can you remember teachers in elementary, middle, high school, or college who taught in accordance to any of the ideologies in the inventory? Describe them.

Part B-Once you have concluded which ideology is most like your own beliefs, read the corresponding chapter to that ideology in the text:

Chapter 2: Scholar Academic Ideology

Chapter 3: Social Efficiency Ideology

Chapter 4: Learner Centered Ideology

Chapter 5: Social Reconstruction Ideology

You may want to refer to Chapter 6: A Comparative Overview of the Curriculum Ideologies, also.

Develop a 5-7 slide PowerPoint presentation on describing your ideology. As you read the chapter(s) that corresponds to your ideology, think about the meaning that this ideology gives to the following concerns and include them in your presentation: the central aims or purposes of education, the way learning takes place in schools, the role of the teacher during instruction and evaluation of students.
