Homework: Degree Plans
Accepted via the Canvas submission page. Do not submit assignments via e-mail or Canvas messenger.
Objective:
Students must show they understand the prerequisites and terminology of a degree plan.
Instructions:
You will find copies of the degree curriculums and flowcharts by visiting
https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/engineering/academics/degree-plans. There are
three CSE degree plans available: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Software Engineering.
Select the degree guide that is most appropriate for you, and fill out the next two years of coursework,
starting with the Fall semester of the present year (e.g., Fall 202x).

The degree plan that you assemble is for you specifically. For instance, if you plan to take classes at
another University, you should include those courses in this degree plan.
Step 1. The first row should be three cells, your first name, your last name, and your student ID number.
Step 2. The second row, the three columns will be merged, and put in your campus e-mail address.
Step 3. The third row, the three columns will be merged, and put in your major:

Step 4. After these header rows, plan out the semesters as follows:
Step 4.1. Each semester of Excel should start with a title that indicates the semester. Replace the ‘x’ in
the above examples with the relevant year. This title should be three cells merged horizontally and
centered.
Step 4.2. Then, under that title will be three columns. The first column will be the department code, the
second column will be the course number, and the third column will be the course title.
Step 4.3. The courses shall be color coded: Freshmen course should be blue. Sophomore courses should
be in green. Junior courses will be in yellow. Senior courses in orange. See example.
Step 4.4. If a semester marks the crossing of the Upper Classman Line (e.g. your coursework includes
3000-level courses), include another 3-column wide, centered label stating “UPPER CLASSMAN” in bold
type between the semesters.
Step 5. Remember, you cannot take courses anytime you wish. They must be done according to the
degree plan chart.
Step 5.1. You cannot take a class unless the co-requisite or pre-requisite is accepted. The degree plan
flowcharts are very helpful for determining co-requisites and pre-requisites.
Step 5.2. You cannot take any 4000 (Senior) level technical courses until you have made Upper
Classman.
Step 5.3. Double check your degree plan!
Turn In:
Students are to create an Excel spreadsheet file that is encoded degree.netid.xlsx, where netid is their
student netid in the form of “abc1234”.
