The essay is on the causes and macroeconomic consequences of an economic crisis in a country of your choice. The crisis you focus in this country may be one of the early debt crises of the 1980s, currency crises of the 1990s-2000s or the recent post-2008 Great Recession or the economic crisis after the Covid-19 Pandemic. Discuss also the policy responses to the crisis in this country. If the country had other experiences of crises, present a brief comparison of the reasons, policies, and effects during this crisis compared to the other crises episodes. For your essay,
1. Present a literature review using academic articles regarding the economic developments in your country of choice as well as theoretical and empirical articles on crises and economic policy in general. Please use the Harvard referencing system throughout.
2. Collect data regarding the relevant macroeconomic variables using databases provided by the office of national statistics of the country of your choice or international institutions such as World Development Indicators, OECD, AMECO, IMF, and present an analysis of the macroeconomic developments before and after the crisis to analyze the causes and consequences of the crisis, and policy responses in this country. Support and/or compare your own analysis with those in the literature.
