Choose a specific topic in American history to 1876, an event, person, etc., and develop an annotated Internet Bibliography.  You can use any search engine to find websites on your topic.  Another option is to click on “Modules” on our CANVAS page and then scroll down to“External Links.”  There you will find a variety of web sites related to American History.  Either way, not all of them will be useful to youbut finding out which sites to stay away from is also helpful information to learn!

Begin your paper with an introductory paragraph that explains why you chose your particular topic, and then write a two to three page commentary on FIVE websites you found that deal with your topic, (five paragraphs . . . one for each site), expressing your opinions on the usefulness of the sites in doing historical research.  (Be sure to include the complete web addresses of the sites so that I can easily take a peek at what you found).

Then, finish up your paper with a concluding paragraph where you reflect upon how and where you found your websites.  What search strategy, engine, or database did you use?  How long did it take you to find the five sites?  Was it difficult or easy to find good, current, relevant, and reputable sites?  Would you be confident in further exploring your topic based on your experience with this assignment?

That’s all.  Don’t actually write a full research paper.  Just describe and evaluate the websites.  Package the whole thing together as you would any other formal paper.
