This week, you will write two poems. One poem will be a political or political spoken word poem, and the other poem can be on whatever subject you choose.
- This should bea brand new poem that you have written for this class.
- Remember to use concrete language and keep abstractions to a minimum.
- Use specific visual description and imagery. I will grade down a lot for poems that do not have images.
- Use figurative language, but stay away from cliches. No cliches!!!
- Do not use a lot of -ing words or adverbs. Use alive and bright language.
- Do not just speak abstract feelings as if you are making a monologue or a speech about the way you feel. Model your poems after the types of poems we are studying.
- Give the poem emotional resonance through images.
- Remember that what you don’t say is as important as what you do say.
Poems should be substantive – at this time, no haikus or very short poems. Submit poems in one .doc attachment. Begin each poem at the top of a new page. Poems should be in 12-point Times New Roman font.
