- A title that best represents the essay
- A clear context that presents the text, the artist/author and then offers a brief summary and/or description of the text
- A clear thesis that presents a clear main idea of what the text is about (Your thesis should be your judgement of the text.)
- A logical organization that presents specific criteria to evaluate
- Specific examples from the text that directly support the thesis
- An awareness of audience, understand for whom you are trying to
- Sophisticated language that is not cliché or boring
- Paragraphs should be cohesive and well-developed with specific examples (quote from the lyrics or the lecture)
- Examples should be quotes from the text using MLA in-text citations
- One paragraph should be offer a response to an alternative judgment
- A conclusion that does not summarize the essay but offers the reader something thought-provoking
- Grammar & spelling errors should be eliminated by the final draft
- Essay MUST be 4 pages MINIMUM. Essays shorter than minimum will receive no higher than a 70%
- Use standard : double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12pt. font Times New Roman
