What information is being communicated? • In other words what is the point of the piece, what is the reporter trying to accomplish? (hint: Try very hard to avoid quotes – your job is to paraphrase the author of the piece.) 2. What facts are presented? List them all and the source cited for each. • Remember, the reporter is not the source of the facts. 3. Are the sources of the presented facts credible? State why or why not. 4. Does the reporter present facts without providing a source for them? • If so, discuss what effect this has on the credibility of the piece. 5. Do the facts presented agree with what you know about the subject? Why or why not? 6. Does the reporter use the facts properly? Explain why or why not. 7. Does the reporter engage in any fallacies in presenting the information? If so, cite each of them and identify which type(s) they are. (Think very hard about this question.) 8. Do you think the reporter accomplished what they set out to accomplish? Why or why not? 9. What is your opinion of the piece and how did it affect your understanding of the aspect of Kansas Natural History that was the focus of the piece?
