On the cover of the third edition (2006) of the Colour of Democracy, Frances Henry and

Carol Tator state that racist beliefs and practices, although widespread and persistent,

are frequently invisible to everyone but those who are affected by them. 

 

(a)  Explain what Henry and Tator mean and show why this is the case.

(b) What do you think of this statement? Do you agree with the authors? Do you think

things have changed in 2021?   Has your perception of racism changed during the period of this course? Explain.

(c) In your discussion make sure you refer to analyses that have come up in this class

and provide 2-3 examples that support your ideas.


Your explanation should also include the reason for the reproduction of racist beliefs and practices in our social institutions (i.e., the media, education, health-care, the justice system and the police, as well as political and economic institutions. You should apply at least one of the sociological perspectives in your analysis that will help you to provide adequate explanations.
